The intent of this flash is to document the AIX fixes and Oracle patches that need to be used with the Database Online patching feature. This document is not a guide on how to apply the Oracle patch online.
IBM and Oracle recommend that ALL customers follow the steps mentioned in the Flash “Oracle’s USLA HEAP Patches available on AIX”.
http://www-03.ibm.com/support/techdocs/atsmastr.nsf/WebIndex/WP102066
Customers should evaluate the need to install the fix that corrects AIX behavior when the environment variable MPROTEXT_TXT=ON is set, as is required for Oracle Database online patching. Without this fix, JAVA and certain other applications may not start when the environment variable MPROTEXT_TXT=ON is set in the current shell.

If a customer anticipates applying an Oracle patch online, IBM recommends that the customer review Oracle bug number 13494030, which refers to the problem “slow process startup with online patches on AIX”. This describes a possible problem on a system with high rate of connections to Oracle database under relatively loaded environment. The bug can be found at Oracle My Oracle Support website at https://support.oracle.com/CSP/ui/flash.html. Please note that user id and password are required to access My Oracle Support. If an Oracle patch is not available for download, customer may follow normal Oracle support process to request the patch.
